New Desktop Backup Sych for Android?

This article suggests that the Nexus One page may hint at a desktop backup interface. Since it's through a dock do you think this will work exclusively for N1 or will be available for all Android devices?

Is The Nexus One Bringing A New Android Backup Service With It?

That's some pretty wild speculation, and I just don't see it happening. Everything is already synced wirelessly with the cloud except for apps (which you arguably have no reason to backup) and the files you store on the SD card. The files on the SD card are presumably already stored somewhere else and don't need backing up.

What about music purchased from Amazon or other online retailers via your phone, or data that is used by apps and stored locally? These both would benefit from sync software.

I see your point. I guess this could be considered a redundancy in processes.
