    is there anyway to save word or excel file attachments from email?

    Archive the email. Then open it with your computer later. It will be in the All Mail folder in Gmail.

    I use touchdown for my work email, opened attachment are s
    aved on the SD card in the nitrodesk attachments folder.

    Install K-9 as your mail client - it does everything that the built in client doesn't.
