It's been a long time since we've seen anything worth putting in the news from Route 66, but since the partnership with TomTom, a little app we thought was pretty "nifty" caught our attention.
An Android app (coming to the marketplace soon), Route 66 Maps + Navigation, brings augmented reality to GPS navigation. How is this posible? A new feature called Follow Me uses the phone or tablet's camera to view real-time video of the road ahead. It also places a virtual car on the road ahead of you to show you where you are going with lights to indicate when to turn. The app also features simultaneous voice directions in 57 languages, up-to-date TomTom maps of 100 countries with 3D graphics, and multitouch gesture control.
