you may have to do this to get a recovery to work http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dro...artitions.html
Just changed the boot logo on my Droid and was back at 2.0.1, installed the update that popped up to get 2.2, then rooted using this. Worked very well and I like how you can toggle root on and off.
I've noticed there are several versions. the above link goes to version 1.5.3 and there is another version (possibly newer) 1.6.2
Wondering which one everyone is using?
so I rooted using universal root, what are the most important additions I need before I start downloading themes and custom roms?
not quite sure what youre asking but if youre running 2.2 (which i assume you are) then you can get one of chevy's 2.2 kernels ( Smoked Energy 1.3 theme for SimplyStunning 4.6 )
and then as far as apps, if you do decide to get a kernel, then setCPU is required, as well as temp monitor is a good idea too since you dont wanna set your droid on fire. both are in the market

What about a backup app. Do i need some special app for downloading and installing roms?
Can I just download these from my phone or do I need to download to pc then install using something else?
the kernel you need to get from your pc, rename to update.zip on the root of your sd card, then install in recovery
the apps you can get on the market (i think they cost $)
and you dont need a backup app unless you want your highscores from your games or are too lazy to re-do some of your settings once you put on a ROM.
