I waited a month or two for my invite.

But maybe it's the announcement that they are opening it up to everyone finally. I know they had planned that for end of summer/fall timeframe.

But maybe it's the announcement that they are opening it up to everyone finally. I know they had planned that for end of summer/fall timeframe.

I think the original beta announcement was mid-July (so it's been about 6 weeks). I signed up a week after the announcement...late July and still nada. I know they're slowly releasing access. David Pogue's NYTimes writeup wasn't too kind, despite acknowledging it's in beta.

I've tinkered a bit with the SDK. I'm really disappointed that AppInventor only allows one screen, and no market access. Of course, like someone already noted, we don't want thousands or millions of HelloPurr copies on the market, but I hope there's a way to get "legitimate" apps out there. Otherwise, I guess I'll code the hard way...the SDK is not difficult, just a lot of low-level (relatively speaking) tasks to deal with (e.g., managing image formats, polling, message handling, etc.). It looks like AppInventor also streamlines access to the hardware (e.g., camera, accelerometer, GPS).

Yeah, I signed up after I read the announcement somewhere else - engadget maybe? Can't remember. Guess I was thinking it was June time frame.

I tossed around the idea of getting into app building and this looked like an easy WYSIWYG method. But it is limited and the only real way to go is hard coding - something I don't have the time to learn right now.

Maybe I'll buck the establishment and make a "HelloBark" or "HelloFleas" app since I'm not really a cat person.
