Once droidmod gets through that step, it will boot back into your phone and if you have a Ninja/super user icon in your app drawer you're rooted.
You need to run DMUpdater again to apply the SPRecovery / Nandroid portion of the install.
Even if you have root, you still need SPRecovery to create the Nandroid backup to save your butt if you break something. Without that backup of your system you can seriously screw yourself.
I had a nice signature, but the mean ate it.

The DMUpdater program works in two steps: the first is rooting, the second is flashing the rom to the DM custom rom.
Click root my droid, and follow the onscreen instructions.
SholesMod Updater 2.0.1 Step by Step (Sticky?)
Above are instructions for an old version of the same program, you want to follow instructions 4 thru 8, and then head back to Matt3w's guide.

OK quick question here, I recently went back to stock(no root) after being on DroidMod 1.0, OK when I want to flash back to DM 1.0 should I wipe/keep apps or dont wipe? I just dont wanna use another 20mb internal memory since its so limited until Google actually lets us install apps on the SD card instead of using internal memory. Thanks for any suggestions.

No need to wipe. Just delete DMupdate from your applications. You will also see it on your SD card, you can delete that too if you like.

Just did droidmod process yesterday. Everything went like clockwork. Only one problem. It asks you "do you have a problem with maps?" I didn't so i selected NO. Now if i try to voice navigate somewhere----like----(touch the microphone button) and say "navigate to denver, CO" It force closes. Is there a fix for this? I removed maps from the phone and then installed them back from the market but same issue

I haven't seen this issue. Did you try just restarting the Droid to see if that clears up the FC issue? I'd also try a battery pull. If that doesn't work you may consider a wipe and reflashing DM.

Tried rebooting...no avial....have not done a battery pull yet...but will try it. When/if i reflash i guess i should choose YES when it asks.

Couldnt hurt. All YES will do for you is not install Maps, and you'll have to do it yourself in the Market.

When I fired up my Maps app it asked me to download the voice package and everything was fine.
