For us to compare, you going to have to tell us which stock ROM and which AOSP ROM.
HTC THUNDERBOLT Rooted / Perfect Storm 1.2 ROM / Overclocked @ 1.80GHZ
Evolution
: Droid 1 - Incredible - Droid X - Thunderbolt

frg83d vs froyo (aosp). I built aosp froyo on a ubuntu 10.10/64 bit environment. When I compare the components in /system/framework, I find my aosp build are bigger. Don't know why.

Gonna go out on a limb and say you compiled in Debug Mode. Which would make the end result more bloated because the extra debug information.

Ima gonna be honest, I dont know enough to hang.....lol. Not on the coding side.

Does that mean that I have to modify build/envsetup.sh? Because there is no such "Release" option when running lunch.
Can you shed light on how to build one without the debug information?
-
I'm sorry I cannot. I have never compiled a rom. I am a programmer though that's why I had assumed your build was larger because of debug mode. I notice in the apps thats I compile if it's set to debug I get lots of extra crap.
-
when you build it their is 3 different build types example "lunch Sholes-eng"
"lunch sholes-usr"
for a non debugging rom you'll want -usr
im not sure of your exact lunch syntax but -usr will work

The option I choose is "generic_sholes-userdebug". This option becomes available after getting the sholes related stuff off koush's repo (go to device/motorola/sholes), and getting the binaries off the phone (go to vendor/motorola/sholes). Did I miss anything in between?

then use "user"... koush's repo has 3 different builds for the d1. user, user debug and some other one i forget what it was.
