changing notification sound for an app

there's an app thath i use that i would like to change the notification sound for, but the app doesnt support/provide alternate notification sounds. So now for my question....how hard would it be to decompile the apk, remove the old notification sound from the coding and replace it with a new notifcation sound? Just for the record i have almost no experience programming/writing java.
