    Keyboard listener

    Does anyone know if the current SDK allows for applications to listen and manipulate the characters from the standard keyboard while the user is not within the application? For example, Android OS phones have the feature of adjusting contractions (i.e. changing "arent" into "aren't") from within any application. Is this feature provided to standard developers? If so, what package name should I look up for more information within the SDK?
