    can a Droid be used as a RFID?

    Can it scan/transmit RFID's??? A co-worker and I both have droids and was wondering if it could work. I think the droid has the capability of doing RFID but not sure.

    This concept has been looked at, but hasn't extensively been worked on.

    The thing about RFID is that the actual reader powers the card to read what's on it.

    The Droid uses wireless signals, so does the RFID. It's understandable to assume that.

    Yes. 1) using a SIM card enabled with an RFID standard like DASH7 (Home | dash7.org)
    2) a SD Card enabled with the same.
    3) co-existing with NFC's silicon.

    These options will be available in the first half of 2010 for multiple smartphones, but so far there is no current support for active RFID directly in an Android handset.

    Sure. Someone needs to build an app to help present the data in a useful way, but otherwise existing input options will suffice. Eventually Android, like iPhone, will become a mechanism for acquiring lots of sensor and location data and the issue of the UI will become paramount. If you are planning on developing an app for RFID, or sensor networks in particular, let me know as I may be able to help generate customers.

    supposedly the goverment is putting rf id tags in passports, driver licences, store are starting to use them. wouldnt you like to know if there is one around you.
