Problems flashing new ROM from SD card

Rooted since November (debloated, deodexed stock gingerbread). Trying to install a ROM from the SD card now and can't seem to make it work. I have done this successfully on a Captivate and on a Color Nook, so I am familiar with the process. On my Charge though, when I try to boot into recovery via ROM Manager, or access recovery manually using volume, home and power I get the following message and then the phone just reboots. Everything works fine and it isn't a boot loop, it just reboots once. Any suggestions? Thanks

Fyi, rom.manager and our phones don't play nicely unfortunately.

Can you offer some more info? What build are you currently on, what rom are you trying to flash and what version of cwm recovery so you have?

As for the ROM, I haven't decided, but was leaning towards Infinity. Definitely open to suggestions.

You're on a really old recovery. There's been several updates to version 5. That could be part of the issue you're having. Version 5 has had some issues with restoring nandroid backups, but version 4 is also still available. I use version 4 and have had no issues with flashing it restoring backups. Infinity is fine, but its not on the most recent build. Fp1 is the latest build. Personally I think its better than the previous ep4d. Theres two fp1 custom roms, eclipse 2.0 and tweaked 2.0. Both are solid, eclipse I find a little more performance while tweaked is more feature rich, but both are nice roms IMO. Theres also a debloated deodexed stock fp1. The stock fp1 kernel is actually decent, but there's also a fp1 custom kernel, pb&j. Lets you overclock, supports ext4 and custom boot animation.

If you do decide to go to fp1 build you'll need to return to stock, take the ota update, then rerroot.
