Flashing With Odin

Some custom software requires you to use Odin, here is how.

How To Use Odin:

!!READ THIS ENTIRE POST BEFORE YOU START!!

1. download and install the program and drivers if you need them.
2. download the file you want to flash and extract the MD5 file if it's zipped.
3. *** make sure you're phone battery is well above 50%
4. unplug USB or charger and power off phone.
5. DO NOT remove the battery (some may tell you to remove it, i don't recommend it).
***** there are mixed results when it comes to the battery in or out.
***** the bottom line is, when flashing RADIO files (as found in FULL Odin packages)
***** you want the battery in, reason being, if anything goes wrong you CAN BRICK
***** the phone, unlikely but highly possible.
***** for simple flashes such as CWM or Root, you can leave the battery out if you
***** have problems with it in, the danger is extremely minute.
6. start Odin program on your pc
7. plug USB cable into phone + pc. ( QUICKLY move to step #8, any delay from #7 to #8 may make the download screen not open with the battery in)
a.*use "back" USB port if possible, front and side often fail.
8. hold vol. down button (approx. 3 sec.) until you see a big yellow triangle.
9. "id:com" should now show a port if you are connected
a. if #9 is no repeat step #7 and or try another port,
if still no, disc. phone, reboot pc and start again from #6
10. click PDA and find you're MD5 file from the developer (from step #2)
make double DOUBLE sure you click PDA, NOT PHONE!!!!
or your phone is TOAST
11. press Start
12. in the upper left it will say "pass" or "fail" when its done and phone will shut off
a. if it fails, try again from step #6,
if it fails repeatedly, swich to a different USB port
13. after "pass", replace battery and boot the phone,
booting may take 5 min. or more depending on the software, but not more than 10 min.
** read the developers post carefully and follow any special instructions
they may have included, such as, wipe cache, wipe data, etc.
** if your phone "boot loops" (likely because you didnt "wipe data/factory reset, and cache, before you started as recommended by every developer)
boot into stock recovery or cwm and do it now.

This is rocket science, dont blame me, this site, Johnny Walker or Jose Quervo for messing up you're phone.

7/17/11: added a newer version of Odin, i never had an issue with the old, thats the one i still use.

When a newer version of gingerbread comes out, would I have to take it back to stock EE4 before I put a newer version on it? Or would I just go from EP3HA to whatever the newer one would be?

i have flashed my verizon samsung droid charge using odin. everything successful except does not read sims card now???? says no sims or sims error. i used altered beast file to flash??

Yeah, my 32gig sim got destroyed too... sucks...

yhe phone isn't destroyed. it is working fine. i'm just trying to unlock it to be able to use at&t service. anyone have any suggestions pm me or reply to my post. also would be interested in a trade if i can't do this successfully. would like a droid that is at&t compatible. let me know i'll shoot you pics and all accessories....
