Problems with Stereo Headset Port

Ok all you Techies...

I currently own a Bionic...and recently purchased Merkury Metal Earphones, which has a 3.5 mm jack.
I plugged them in today...and am having difficulty hearing out of both earpieces at the same time, unless I push the jack in further into the phone.
I've not ever dropped the phone, but then again....the phone is a "certified like new", so not so sure if the phone has ever been dropped. When I push and hold the jack into the port, I get GREAT sound out of both left and right....so I don't think it's due to faulty wiring in the headset.

What do you think I should do?

Try with a different set of headphones first to see if you get good quality sound from them. If you don't, it's the jack, if you do, it's the headphones.
