R if society wouldnt think of me as gay i would kiss you LOL, that worked, i guess i was so used to not having trouble at all with all the past phones it never came to my mind that this phone had been messed with somehow, after flashing FXZ (and fafter ixing the XML inside it coz rsd wouldnt take it, this is documented error), worked at first try, in fact i already had the latest fxz, the one i asked you about, because the very first bionic i did was already rooted somehow (i guess from previous rom version and with rootkeeper) so i had to fxz the first one too, and i didnt remember, you are a life saver, THANK YOU, and to all that are having problems i bet the easiest way is to FXZ it to JB and then use the virtual machine to root it, owrks flawlesly.
On the other hand, after so many tries i didnt notice when or how but today that i took the phone to fxz it, it had a missing power button, no idea how that happened, i left it yesterday after one last try and giving up and the button was there lol (i know coz i had to press it many times) and today was gone grrrr, u guys know of any place that sells the single damn button? i found a place but its 9 dlls plus shipping, not gonna happen, oh well at least i got it done and now is more than a paperweigth

Used this step by step method and it worked just fine...at the end the Linux VM sort of hung up but I know enough to recognize I was good to go, I was past delivering the exploit and pressing the hardware button (Vol up/down or Power) and when the device rebooted the VM hung but that's okay as SU was already achieved....
One of the first things I did was use root explorer and went to system (not sys) then app then down to motocare.apk and after entering R/W mode (default is R/O) I simply renamed motocare.apk to motocare.K which keeps the .apk on the device in case I want updates but also prevents the app from being launched....(to switch back just rename from .K to .apk)
Disabling (not removing) motocare.apk will stop this from running constantly which in my case was not only a drain on the battery but also eats up a lot of ram...I used to have at most 230MB to 280 MB free before I disabled motocare.apk and now I've got 423MB free...there is a lot of debate about ram usage on android devices but my device was lagging with the stock jellybean 4.1.2 and things like motocare are completely useless to me...my device is snappy and working great so I appreciate your hard work on this easy root.
Things I did to speed up Droid Bionic (running stock 4.1.2)
Disabled any app I don't use/think I'll use that was allowed under stock (prior to root)
Under developer options I turned of window, transition & animator animations
Under developer options I changed Background process limit to "At most 4 processes"
Rooted the device and disable motocare.apk
Changed permission for Google Play Store and a few other apps to prevent them from turning on at startup or maintaining space in cache (doing this will alow what apps I want to run in cache from being shutdown and apps I don't want taking space in the cache, the shut down start up is linked to battery drainage)

I also have sort of the same kind of problems:
1) when I connect the XT910 to my PC (Win7) or to my MAC (MacBook Air) the XT190 does not show up although I hear a notification sound (I turned on/off Debug USB, Mass Storage, MTP...) but no results
2) When I connect the device and I run RSD Lite the XT910 gets recognized :-/
3) When I launch VM I cannot get any host IP address (neither on Win nor on Mac, although my router is set on DHCP)
I have tried several times what's written in the forum but couldn't sort this out!
Smartphone: Motorola RAZR XT910
Kernel: 3.0.8-g7198280 hudsoncm@il93lnxdroid84 #1 SMP PREEMPT
First off thanks for the instructions and all the support this great community provides!! I performed the steps and all seemed to have went well... however I have no access to Play Store... any counsel for a newb?
