Milestone 2 to come with 720p video, possible to add it to D2?

I noticed they are saying that Moto's upcoming Milestone 2, the overseas twin to the D2 is supposed to come with a 720p capability. If this is indeed the case is this due to a hardware difference or is there some sort of software upgrade to the Milestone 2 that allows for this. If its a software driven update I would think somehow it can be applied to the D2. Am I correct?

According to the Motodev website, the Milestone 2 has a TI OMAP 3630-1000 and the Droid 2 has a TI OMAP 3620-1000. When I looked at the TI website to see what the difference between the two was, the 3620 does DVD/VGA video while the 3630 records in HD

Well that does pretty much answer the question. It looks like D2 users are screwed as far as HD video recording is concerned. But I reviewed Motorolas and TI's info thebandito posted links to and on both processors and I did notice that they both appear to have Video DAC SVideo chips on both the 3620 and 3630 processors. Not sure how that could help with adding video output on the D2 but its worth noting. Maybe somehow that built in ability could give us some sort video output ability even if its not HDMI.

Also it seems that the Droid X and Droid 2 do not share processors after all contrary to all the promoted information. It appears from the data that the Droid X and Milestone share the 3630 processor which is why I guess they both can do 720 video. As pointed at by thebandito the Droid 2 uses the 3620 processor which from the info I read lacks this ability.

So in a nutshell, Motorola dropped the ball on the Droid 2 IMHO. Maybe Verizon feared 720 video and HDMI on the D2 would cannabilize sales of the DX so they had Moto dumb it down a bit. But it looks like we D2 owners will probably not be able to hack our phones to get these features. :-(

Hmm just read this and was wondering...does this mean then that the Droid 1 can do 720p??

Because for its 3430 chipset it does in fact say it has the IVA 2+ and not the regular IVA 2 which the Droid 2 has in its 3620 chipset which seems like the only difference is supporting 720p recording/playback

So, with that said, it's true that the Droid (original) can be unlocked to record at 720p
