Question Ringtone from Song Clip

Folks, how do I make a good quality ringtone from a song clip. I can cut a 20 sec. section using an audio editor...but the quality is not as good as ringtones from Verizon...

Just make sure you use a good audio editor, like Audacity, and you should be able to make higher quality ringtones than anything you can get from VZW.

I'm curious why you want to limit yourself to 20 sec. Unlike the iPhone the Droid will support a longer tone.

I think 20 sec or so is the standard ring time before it goes to VM, but yeah, there's no reason to not have a longer tone.

I tried to use Audacity but was not clear on how. I had a m4a version of a song and Audacity was messed up when I tried to play back. So I used Wave Pad.

Thanks I had not realized that. When I installed my old iPhone ring tones they appeared to wrap so I switched to the full song. But I'm old and my hearing is bad so it may be another senior illusion

I am wondering if I need to rip at a higher quality.

Audacity should be able to handle M4A, did it sound bad when you played it, or after you exported it? If it's the latter, then try uncompressed WAV....

The original version of the song is m4a and is about 9 minutes long. When I import it in Audacity and play, it speeds it up into about 5-6 secs and sounds like a screech.
