How to used downloaded ringtones for text notifications

hi, maybe a stupid question (could find/understand via search).

I an using handcent and have downloaded several songs via mabilo. I have set my different incomming calls with different songs, but I want to do the same with texts, but it only gives the original preset options. how do I use these songs for texts. (I read to make a different folder for notifications , with I did withastro, but it still dosn't come up. so if this is the answer, please walk me through it a little slower)

    thanks.

BTW I love this forum. it has helped me a loot so far!

Are you wanting a different ringtone just for texts? or a different ringtone for individual texts?

Pretty sure you just need to create a folder on your SD card called "Notifications" (use Astro to do this or mount through your computer) and dump your tones in there for them to show up in the text/notifications list.

Same can be done for adding ringtones by placing songs in a folder called "Ringtones" on the card.

Edit: Sorry, I see now that you already tried this......strange, because I know this usually works.
