Any apps for police/fire dispatch realtime?

Anyone hear of one? Long ago I used to get live posts on local police dispatch from a feed somewhere. It was some sort of running log that came up in a command window. Would like one for the Droid.

I just turned my droid into a police scanner and it's free! First, I downloaded Cherry Rplayer from the market. This is a highly rated free audio stream player. There are others like Droidlive.

Now for the hard part. Go to RadioReference.com - Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference and find the stream you want. First, click the "Live Audio" link, ignore any errors about needing Adobe Flash, then from the pulldown menus on the left select your county, metro area, or state. This brings up a list of available feeds. Simply find the feed you like and select iTunes from the "Player Selection" pulldown. Finally, click the speaker icon on the left side associated with that feed. Your stream player will then open up and start playing the live feed! In the cherry player, you can add this to your favorites.

I think this is great. A police scanner costs about $100 and here the droid gives it to me for free, and it's smaller than any police scanner out there.

BONUS: Cherry Rplayer let's you listen to all kinds of radio stations including howard stern. Just do a search for Howard.

I just bought Police Radio in the Market today. It's a 1.50 but well worth it in my opinion.

You can get feeds from all over the US and other countries.

    VERY VERY clear as well...

Give it a shot. You have 24 hours to return it if you don't like it.

    I rate it a 10

Just kidding, but I'm in love w/ my $0 method mentioned above. Curious to know all pros/cons of the app v. streaming from radioreference.com

I've never streamed from that site so I can't give you a comparison but this was posted from the developer.

"though this is the first release many new features are planned for upcoming versions including GPS/Map support, additional channel sources, channel categorization, etc."

Like I said you can give it a shot then if it's not worth it to you simply refund it within 24 hours. Bet you won't though : )

What a great idea! You could select police/fire/whatever and then select "listen to nearest feed" so you'd always be on top of things as you travel.

It's like you know me! I wonder how many times you can buy an app and return it within 24 hours...like are you allowed to do it once/month or something for any particular app?

I don't know. Thats a good question though.

I would assume you could do it as much as you want.

Just did some searching and apparently you can only return an app for refund ONCE. Kinda bad because apps get updated and improved. This policy discourages me from trying out a potentially improved app. They should probably allow it a couple times every year per app or something like that.

Back to police scanners, jeez it's dull around my town. Maybe I'll check out detroit or something.
