Free Text App for out of Country Messaging?

I've been searching for a free app that will let me send "texts" or messages to my contacts thru the "internet" (their service) instead of actually texting like normal thru my service provider. I will be in Cabo where they have 3G but will be charged $.50 to send and $.05 to receive if I text normally.

There seems to be apps where you can send messages but it isn't the primary function (words with friends). Could it be done to where you could send messages like in Words with Friends but to people in your contact list without being charged for texting?

Not without forcing your contacts to use another number to text you.

Not true. Google Voice will text to people back in US while you are outside the country. It will not however text international numbers.

i use whatsapp messanger. works well. sometimes gets "stuck" when data coverage is slow.
