Never needed too....Maybe modify a hard case...

Yeah, I never thought I'd need one either. Then I found a free app called Qik that allows you to live-stream video to the internet. Five minutes after I downloaded it my mother-in-law was watching her granddaughter decorating the Christmas Tree. And today I live-streamed a welcome home party for a newly adopted child, so relatives on the other side of the continent could see it.

Qik is an absolutely amazing app, but the Droid is not exactly ergonomically designed to be held steady for long periods of time. Hence my desire for a tripod attachment.

I'm thinking a modified case, or maybe a suction cup with a receptacle for a standard 1/4" tripod screw. However, before I expend a lot of brain power on this, I'm wondering whether anyone has solved the problem already.

Yeah, get a universal car mount and drill/tap it for a 1/4-20 mount. Should be pretty easy.

I would suggest buying the cheapest Droid case that has a solid hold. Just affix a nut to the back and thread it onto a mini flexible tripod.

i wonder how hard it would be to make the "sleeve" of the car dock fit into something else that would allow the tripod mount. maybe the car dock could be suctioned on to a piece of clean metal for weight and then mounted that way.

i'll have to give that a try and report back.

I have one of these and it works great, but it uses suction cups. I dont think they would hold too well on the back of the Droid. But as a PP mentioned you can always buy a case to make it work.

Unhappy Report on Gorillapod suction cup and another tripod question

Thanks for suggesting the Gorillapod suction cup device. I already own a Gorillapod, so for $9.99 I was able to order a little kit containing one suction cup attachment and two adhesive attachments.

Unfortunately the suction cup didn't stick on the back of the Droid at all. It did stick for a little while on the front, but I wouldn't feel comfortable having it support the Droid. Also, putting it on the front obscures the screen and usually blocks an important control.

I'm returning the kit to Joby. Of the other suggestions offered, the one that makes the most sense to me is to find an appropriate case and attach a 1/4" nut to it.

Does anyone have a specific case suggestion? And for attaching the nut, epoxy or something else?

For attaching the nut, you can't go wrong with JBWeld.

Did you do this mod yet? I know it's only been a week or so.
