I love the docking station. I use it at night for my alarm clock and I love not having to roll over in the middle of the night to unlock my phone just to see what time it is. I also bring it to work an use it there, no real benefit but I think its cool.
I'm thinking of picking up a second one and I don't know what the difference is between the one at best buy for $40 and the one at verizon for $30 except the one at best buy comes with the rapid charger. If the rapid charger has a longer usb cord then I will definitely spend the extra ten to get the one at best buy but if it's the same length or not usb then I'll just get the one at Verizon. Anyone have an answer to this?
I'm not sure about the differnce between the two, but if the cable length is a problem, you can pick up one of these Amazon.com: Belkin F3U134-06 USB Extension Cable - 6ft: Electronics
The only thing I don't like about mine is the fact that the screen does not stay lit. You can only have it displayed for a max of 30 min. (unless I just don't know how to do otherwise *hint hint*)
1. The official Motorola Multimedia Station comes with a rapid charger. It's listed as $30 on Vzw's website and with the ACC20 code, you get 20% off and free overnight shipping (and tax free in most states).
2. Any micro USB cable will work as an extension to the short, 3ft cable. You can find cables at monoprice.com for dirt cheap. Just pick the length you need/want.
3. Don't use or buy any 3rd party chargers of any kind for the DROID. People have reported really odd behavior that can only be accounted to using a non OEM charger.
4. To keep the screen lit while in the cradle, the phone has to be connected to the wall charger. USB on your PC is only rated at 500mAh (the wall charger is 1100mAh) and will not keep the screen lit.
My Droid wakes me every morning with it's rooster call! I can't comment on the Moto Dock as I use my own product, but can say that it's great to have such an awesome alarm clock built into the Droid! That's gotta be worth at least twenty bucks for a normal nightstand alarm clock. You know, you add up all these little perks (alarm clock, GPS unit, camera, etc.) and the Droid is a relatively cheap investment! Especially as it also has a phone buried inside!
And since I get such a great personal discount on my own docks (hee hee) I've got one in every room of my house, including three at my job!I'm wondering why all the other phone manufacturers do not have this feature (multimedia mode) incorporated into their products!
A plug for monoprice here - I've purchased a dozen micro usb cables (6' and 10' lengths) and their stuff is first class! Buck and change each is easy on the wallet also!

Please forgive the newb question but what is "docked"? Is it when you have it plugged into the USB on your computer?
Thanks.
Cuskit is a shameless promoter but he can be forgiven in view of the fact that he makes/sells a great product.
I decided against the Verizon dock because it won't work with a plastic case, e.g. Seidio. Cuskit's Micradle, on the other hand, accommodates virtually any case that I've seen as the photo above suggests. I have mine on my desk connected to the wall socket and it works like a charm.
