Turning in defective phone, need to learn how to wipe memory

    Hi all,

I am returning a defective Droid 4 for a replacement under warranty and don't want any personal info going back with my old phone. I am unsure how to clean all the info out of the old one so as to reduce the risk of someone getting hold of any of my personal info. I've used the phone much as you would a computer and I'm sure there are lots of passwords and credit card numbers that I need to delete. Can anyone help me figure out how to wipe this thing clean?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Remove your sd card and follow steps 4-8 in the first post in the thread here: [HOW TO] Restore your Motorola Droid 4 (XT894) to stock [Windows Only] to wipe your data.

If you want to sbf your phone (a more complete wipe) feel free to do so, just use the sbf file found in Hashcode's directory at goo.im/devs/Hashcode/maserati

Do not use a gingerbread sbf file.

Thanx for the response Jake! I am assuming the sd card is the same as the sim card? I think that will be going into the replacement phone when it arrives, so I shouldn't have to worry about anything on it getting into the wrong hands! Also, I'm not finding any files named "sbf" at Hashcode's directory? Plus, my phone has ics running on it, if it makes a differance.

If you have your SD card removed, doing a factory data reset will remove all info on your phone that is information you have put in it. No need to do the sbf as talked about above.

SD card is different from your SIM card. Follow instructions on removing the SD card.

Just opened up the back of my phone and there is no sd card, just the sim card. Is it an optional thing to have?

Yes. The SD is basically additional memory for your files (pics, music, documents, etc...).
