Good backup phone...

I need a backup phone, and OG Droids are going for 25 bucks.

Is this a wise investment for a backup phone to my Droid 4?

I recomend the stratosphere as a backup. If anything happens to your D4, the SIM card will go right into the stratosphere and you won't have to worry about going to a verizon to get a new sim card, lose your 4g speeds, or calling customer service to go back to 3G. And its still a decent 4G device. They sell for around $80 realistically in the Canton, OH area.
