Should I be unrooting and/or unfreezing my stock (bloat) apps in preparation for the update. IT's been so long since we've had an update I can't remember if this step is necessary.

Thaw out your bloatware in Titanium Backup Pro, change back to the default boot animation if you've changed that and unroot just to be on the safe side. You can download Voodoo Rootkeeper to make a backup of your super user app and temporarily unroot your phone for the update.
Rooted Droid 4 with Jelly Bean 4.1.2, system version 98.72.18.XT894.Verizon.en.US
Alright I have a better question, is there a safe way to uninstall safestrap and unroot without doing a full system restore using the .215 or .219 files? Computer is fried right now.![]()

You guys could use OTA Rootkeeper to keep root or you can just root it using the D4 utility after you've been upgraded to ICS.
As far as what to do there's no need to unroot or defrost apps. The only time you would have to worry is if you modified or deleted system apps/files. In that case the update won't work because the system is not stock. The update looks for a stock system. You would have to fastboot 219 to get a stock system.
So many different opinions...just when I think I know what I'm doing a different one throws me into a tailspin of doubt.![]()
So I'm stock with root & safestrap and I've done the following:
1) Defrosted all apps
2) returned to original boot animation
3) Uninstalled safestrap app
4) Used voodoo to temp unroot
Did I miss anything? And is uninstalling the safestrap app enuf or do I need to do something else to remove it from the system?
Did you uninstall recovery as well as uninstalling safestrap?
Crap! No! Ok...rerooted...restored Safestrap, uninstalled recovery, uninstalled Safestrap and unrooted...
Sound about right?
Sounds right!
BTW, you can keep your phone rooted.
Thanks for the quick replies occ!
Well...that was weird...the install didn't take. It got about a third of the way on the progress bar and rebooted. Still on 2.3.6.Now it's re-downloading the update. Guess I'll try again & see what happens.
