So im about to buy a Droid 4 and switch it over to Cricket, will it still be able to get OTA's so I can get ICS when it rolls out? Or will I have to wait for some kind of rom..

well you more than likely wont get the updates as they come through verizon, alternatively tho as leaks have been getting found you would be able to manually upgrade. otherwise you can go for a rom which would have all of the verizon bloat removed which you wont need anyway.
Okay so to manually update it, will I have to have it rooted?
no will just need to get the update zip file and put it on your ext sd card, when your in recovery you will be able to apply it refer to [HOW TO] Install the leaked Android 4.0.4 ICS build on the Droid 4 (XT894) on the whole process, even tho this refers only to the leak it would be the exact same.
