How is the size/ergonomics? (ignoring keyboard)

In short: are people finding this easy enough to hold and use with one hand, slip in and out of a pocket, etc?

I actually have zero interest in the keyboard (it seems like I'm the only person in the world considering this phone who doesn't care about the keyboard...), but bought and returned the RAZR because it was too big for me. I loved everything else about it, so naturally the smaller Droid 4 caught my attention. At the moment, the Droid 4 is the only 4" LTE phone scheduled for ICS... and perhaps it will stay that way for a while...

It's still wider (thicker, heavier) than the Rezound, so I'd hate to suffer with the poor screen quality if it's not much easier to use than the RAZR was...

I know everybody's got different hands, but it seemed like most people agreed the RAZR was extremely wide (others I know that have it simply accept that it requires two hands), and I haven't seen any commentary anywhere about the form factor and usability of the Droid 4... it's all just "keyboard is great, screen is terrible"... and of course I've already used my return with Verizon at this point...

I have had the d4 since it came out. mind you i wanted the KB. i came from a thunderbolt which was nice but no KB. it is a little bulkier than a phone w/o a KB. one thing i have noticed is that it is a bit smooth and slippery when trying to slide it open. i have a case on it so i dont notice unless its off. yea the screen isnt great but i know its not a tv. physically overall it is nice and holds well in the hands. and it really comes down to preference. as far as software and ui it is fast and speedy no lag . the moto blur isnt bad but i use Adw launcher. all in all if you want a smaller phone as in width <my d4 was narrower than my Thunderbolt>it will be just fine but the thickness is def more than a Razr. i just ordered one for my wife earlier today because they are only 100$ on vzw.com

I had the D1 (3.5" screen) and always felt that it could be a little bigger. When I checked out the Droid RAZR (4.3" screen) I felt it was a bit wider than optimal for one hand. I think the D4 size is just perfect.

If you don't require a physical keyboard, there are better phones out there. You really want a half inch thick phone with a substandard display?

The size is perfect. I wouldn't want it to be any wider, and the weight feels right -- not too heavy and not too flimsy.

R2D|ROID: "half inch thick phone with a substandard display" is exactly why I am hesitant. But I *do* really want a 4" phone with LTE and ICS, and right now there sadly aren't any better phones (or any other phones at all) with those qualifications, and I'm not aware of any announcements or rumors that there will be any such phones anytime soon........

(if you know otherwise, I'd love to hear it!)

(I would also like the D4's global roaming, since I have had to carry two phones when traveling before, but that's not a critical requirement)

Kack: "i have noticed is that it is a bit smooth and slippery when trying to slide it open" - meaning that it's difficult to slide open? I would actually probably consider that a plus... I was worried it might be flimsy and slide open when I didn't want it to...

It is a perfect sized phone. Not too big, not too small, very sturdy feel to it. I have relatively small hands for a dude and I find it quite comfortable to hold, even with one hand. Getting it into/out of pocket it a breeze. I find it hilarious how all of these wussy critics and reviewers complain that this device is "too heavy" for them. Boooo hooo. It's too heavy for them because it is built like a tank and is for a real MAN. I have no complaints about the build/size of this phone. I'd rather have something I can feel is with me at all times rather than some cheap, plastic-ridden POS that would break easily.
