D3 Running Extremely Slow/Buggy

Hi I'm on a rooted and debloated Droid 3 that is getting slower and more buggy every day.
It takes a little over 5 minutes for the device to boot up and another 1.5 minutes to load up my screens and everything (Nearly 7 minutes in total for the phone to be at a usable level).
I have about ... 200-300 downloaded apps but I can't imagine that being the problem. I'm sure people have far more apps and their devices run fine.
Even after boot-up, my D3 will slightly lag or have a delayed response in touch at times, like when navigating through menus or opening/closing apps, etc...
I'm selling the phone soon but just want to know what the problem is so I can enjoy a buttery-smooth running phone for another week and avoid repeating whatever mistakes I'm doing with this device on my next phone (...Nexus)

Get rid of 200 apps. Download droid 3 bootstrap from the market. Download the steel droid 3.0 zip file. Flash it. My phones overall speed and smoothness about doubled.

It depends on what apps you've installed. You could install just 1 automatic task killer, antivirus, or other app/live wallpaper/widget and your phone would bog down.

Here's a recent writeup by REMilk for the OG Droid, but that I think is excellent advice for all phones:

I am responding to the fact that you reported that your OG Droid is running slow.

Before either doing a "factory reset" (which I consider a last ditch effort as it also deletes all non-factory apps) or "Rooting your phone" (which has many benefits, but adds some potential dangers and bricking the phone is not one of the dangers), I suggest that you take the time and do the following:

1. Power down, then power back up. This has the affect of clearing some temporary caches and processing threads, which when filled, can slow you down.

2. Is there a task killer running in the background? If so, stop/kill it immediately! Set it so it does not start. I, as opposed to many others, will say that you should keep it; however run it as a 'task' when you need it to kill a runaway app. End it when done. Android seems to do a pretty good job at memory management.

3. Widgets cause a drain on the performance. Evaluate the 'active' type of widgets you have on your home screen. Ask your self, do I really need to have widgets for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social sites actively updating. Maybe just having the app version as opposed to the widget version will work well for you. Do you really need an independent "Battery Monitor"? Do I really need continual, instantaneous updates to news, and sports, or can I start the app version to get this information? How many weather apps are running in the background, 1 or 2? Without realizing it, you may have one included with a widget, such as "Beautiful Widgets" or "Fancy Widgets" plus also Weatherbug or other weather app.

4. Shut off services that you are not using at the time. One example is Bluetooth. If you have bluetooth running, and you are not connected, it is using processing cycles to monitor the potential pairing of a bluetooth device. Turn it off, unless you are using it.

5. Consider using a Home Screen/Launcher replacement. There are many available. I use "Go Launcher EX" as this works best for me but may not be best for you. I have also used "Zeam", though not as feature-rich as others, seems to be, in my opinion, faster than many Home Screen/Launchers. You see there seems to be a direct correlation between 'speed' and 'features'. I have tried many Home Screen/Launcher replacements and each and everyone has both features that I like and prefer and may not have features I want. Try all of them and see which one suits you best.

I actually do all of those in order to save battery. I use Go Launcher EX, don't ever use task manager/killers, disable bluetooth/wifi/gps when not using it, and only have a calendar/tasks/clock/weather widget on my screens.

About 200 in the media area out of the 275 total apps (500 if you include system apps).

THAT is definitely the problem. The D3 doesn't like apps being moved to Media Area and it performs slower the more apps you run from Media Area (assuming that you do have apps that are partially stored in Media Area). I was having lag issues until I moved all of my apps to Phone from Media Area and I haven't had a problem since. Hopefully Moto will fix it in a future update now that they're owned by Google.

THAT is definitely the problem. The D3 doesn't like apps being moved to Media Area and it performs slower the more apps you run from Media Area (assuming that you do have apps that are partially stored in Media Area). I was having lag issues until I moved all of my apps to Phone from Media Area and I haven't had a problem since. Hopefully Moto will fix it in a future update now that they're owned by Google.

Ah yeah you're right. Unfortunately I have 9.8GB worth of apps on my D3's internal storage and only 300mb free on the phone itself so there's no way I can move them back lol. Guess I'll just have to grin and bear it until my new Nexus is released...
Still... maybe all my apps might mess with the Nexus too :/ .... then again, it's really only the boot time that's a pain in the ass right now..... hmmm
