Newer update than 2.3.4

Is there a newer update over the 2.3.4 that could be used on the D3? I used to have a D1 and before the froyo update was pushed I had found that release version about a month before and was able to update.zip. Is there a similar update I could do? I did the root path before and tried some roms but nothing seems worth flashing except the ics roms but I need full functionality of my phone because I need to take pics. I've never been able to set the phone up like I hear many people do with dual booting roms. If someone could point me to a decent tutorial of this that would be awesome.

Dual-booting in the smartphone realm is a very interesting concept. best places to find stuff like that is the XDA Dev. forum dual-boot – xda-developers although i will warn you that there is very little known information about dual booting on android currently.
