Unable to edit contact phone number with Pause and Wait Characters , and ;

I was told that I can only insert "wait" ";" and "Pause" "," when ADDING new contacts and only on the first number of each contact. I am not able to edit existing contacts that I have from the backup and insert those characters. I have about 100 international contacts which I access through an 800 number. It seems very strange that I will have to re-enter all of these contacts manually.
Please let me know if you know of a workaround.

I had a similar issue. I had to make sure that data was turned on.
Settings
Battery and Data Manager
Data Delivery
Data Enabled

This got the correct contacts loaded for me from backup manager. Before that, I put some contacts in my favorites, but when I tried to call my Droid3 called the wrong number.

having same issues on Razr.

i have tried inserting commas (how do you determine how many commas? each phone system is different). my phone doesn't allow me to insert a wait or a pause, like my blackberry did.
without changing ALL of my info in outlook, or with a simple solution, how do i put in a wait or a pause in a telephone number for an extension on the new Droid Razr?
