This link suggests that the most recent Android software version is 2.3.4. which fixes a serious vulnerability. My Droid 2 Global displays a version of 2.2 and when I look for updates it tells me I have the most recent version. What do I do?
Just because Google releases a new update doesn't mean Motorola the manufacturer of the phone or your carrier will let those updates happen to your phone.
This quote is from the article you cited:
"A Verizon spokeswoman told The Register she couldn't say when the company will provide customers with an updated version of Android."

The sad part is that Motorola is normally on the slow side when it comes to getting the updates out to their phones.
