Therefore if I charge it when it's off it should give me an accurate level?

How do you wipe the battery stats?

Also consider an extended battery- I love my Gorilla Gadgets battery- Google that if interested. If you aren't rooted, give that some consideration. You can freeze useless apps, use SetCPU (you do, so I assume you are rooted), and install another ROM if you are interested. After rooting, you can do as much or as little as you prefer.
For the gorilla gadgets battery, does the droid 2 battery work on the droid 2 global?

If you're talking about the initial drop of 5 to 10 percent when you take it off the charger this will always happen and it's just a result of the physics I was talking about earlier. Immediately dropping to about 80 percent is actually in fact accurate. the inaccuracy is in it telling you that it was at 100 percent to begin with. To protect the battery from long term damage the chargers don't allow it to charge to 100 percent. By turning the phone off and charging it you can overcome this. With respect to the battery gauge being inaccurate beyond the first 15 or 20 percent, I'm not sure. I don't know enough about linux or the batterystats.bin file to answer your question there.

Set your display brightness to the minimum and still ne usable.
The gorrila battery is a lower voltage battery and runs for a long time at less than 5%. It does last a long time.
I run b/t off, wifi off, gps off, except when needed.
If you leave coverage, air plane mode on.
Keep a spare battery and charger.

D2G and D4. Digitizer bit the dust on the D2G and I needed to get up fast so upgraded to the D4.
D4, Love it.
