Help please!!

I rooted my droid 2 and i love it. I have the liberty rom but like 10 minutes ago, i restarted it and tried to enter my # password and it wouldnt unlock! I tried several times, rebooted my phone several times and it still wouldnt work. I finally was able to wipe data and totally restart my phone. It still running the rom but im not putting a password on my phone. I just want to know what might have caused this. I noticed like an exclamation point in the notification bar but i was unable to look at it because my phone was locked. If anyone has had this problem, id appreciate it if you could tell me what you did about it because i dont want to have to wipe data every other day.
