How do you know if you are being throttled?
OK honestly how can I truly even know, I use my phone to tether form the train every day and not once has it ever been solid the whole way, my 3g signal is never reliable for lengthy periods of times, even using TBH patches, jakesmod w/v6 etc etc, sure they have helped but I am just saying, I frequently have to toggle the phone in/out of airplane mode or reboot even! I guess what I am wondering is, if this is what the service is like if you pay the extra money for it, then man what a rip off!! Granted my situation could be because I am constantly in a state of motion... I have yet to just go sit somewhere and use 3g because there is usually wifi available.

Yeah, tower hopping probably isn't doing you any favors in the signal continuity department.

I don't think you're being throttled as Verizon lost that lawsuit, so thats not happening. How far is your train ride? If it's more than 10 miles or so, you're hopping from tower to tower a good bit, and thats not going to help like Snow said. There really isn't a "fix" for your problem, sorry.
If you need any help, feel free to PM me, I'm glad to help where I can!
Please check out my FAQ Thread. You might learn something!

What lawsuit? VZW can throttle as they see fit according to your contract.

Maybe the users should file a suit against them.

That would be pointless. Once again, it's in the contract you signed.

well to clarify I was just asking to see if there was anyway I could test myself to tell if I am being throttled or not, I average 5+ gigs of data a month, currently I have unlimited data, of course I am tower hopping alot, I have a lengthy commute. I guess I should test out my tethering when I am somewhere stationary for a while, usually if I have wifi I dont use it.
