Does Handcent store SMS/MMS message timestamp offsets?

Apologies if this has already been thought of.

I did some research when I realized there was a problem backing up my SMS/MMS messages from my D2 to a file/online space in that messages weren't being backed up or they had the wrong timestamp.

I installed SMSFix a little bit ago but haven't tried to backup anything since.

I was wondering though, since Handcent seems to have all of my messages in threads in the correct chronological order, and timestampped correctly, is that data stored somewhere in a file? It seems like it should be, and is there a way to get at it? Do I have to root my D2?

I was thinking if I could get this data, and then somehow do a dump of all my text messages, do some kind of merge, and upload it back into the phone so at least historically it would be right.

Or is this some bizarre idea I've just cooked up?
