Thumbs down Flashing Telus Motorola Milestone to Cyanogenmod

    Good day,

I am one of unfortunate people to live in Canada, where we live in a mobile phone stone age. I was also foolish enough to buy a Motorola Milestone, which, amongst other shortcomings, has a locked bootloader.

Because Telus and Motorola have decided that we Canadians do not deserve a proper operating system on our phones, those of us who did not want to void our warranties have been stuck with the stock OS -- in mobile phone hell, that is Android 2.1, update 1.

Finally, last week we were informed that we would at long last be graced with the next obsolete version (2.2) this week sometime. Perusing the Motorola Europe Facebook page (where they have already very recently been updated), I can see that there are a lot of unhappy campers. The update supposedly has many problems, despite the extra year that Motorola took to squeeze out our "update".

This is the last straw. I have rooted my phone using "Easy Root" and installed "Rom Manager" in the hopes of flashing to the latest Cyanogenmod that my phone can handle. Unfortunately, "Rom Manager" does not work as advertised.

I started a thread here, and it was suggested that I start a new thread, so here it is.

Any help would be much appreciated! Please, make my "mobile phone hell" a little more bearable... maybe "mobile phone Limbo" would suffice?
    Thanks in advance!

There is a user over at XDA that is porting CM to the Milestone, officially it's not supported though. You may want to take a look at it or look for other roms that may work on your phone.

Ah, I see part of the problem. Easy Root is a lousy, craptacular app. Go to the market and download Busybox by Stericson. Busybox is required by almost all rooted apps, so having it on your phone right now would be a good idea, even if you aren't running too many root-only apps.

Ok. Busybox is installed. Now what?
I'll take a look at that site later tonight as well as the link that mjones73 provided me with.

    Thanks guys.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you, Quixote.

I followed the instructions on this page:
HOW TO: Flash Telus Motorola Milestone to Android 2.2/2.3 » Daniel Arndt

which are specifically for our Telus Milestone, and it worked very well. My Milestone is now running the latest CM7 as recommended by the earlier posters here, and it is working much better than the stock ROM.

    Good luck to you!

Perfect! Iguess this is my best chance. I'll follow these instructions and report back to let everyone know how smoothly it goes.
Thank you so much to everyone for lending a hand.

Yes, please keep us informed. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner; for some odd reason this thread didn't show up as having had a new post in it till today.

    No worries.

Well, I can get through the third step, but I'm not really sure where I'm supposed to use the script mentioned in step 2.1.
I Flash the phone with RSD Lite using the Telus image and can boot back up into 2.2, but I am unable to get into recovery mode.

I've tried applying the file and then holding the camera button as the phone reboots, but I get a white triangle on my screen with a yellow exclamation point in the middle, and a picture of a phone under it.

After that I have no way of continuing because it seems that I cannot enter recovery manager. Does anyone know of anything that I may be doing wrong that I can try differently?

    Thanks in advance.

OK, I feel like a fool, but I found out that I just had to hold the volume up button and hit the camera button again after I see that symbol.
I am now running the latest Cyanogenmod and all seems to be going well in the first 5 minutes.

    Thanks again.

Glad to hear it. This is the first I've made it on today so I'm glad you got it figured out on your own.
