Droid 1 slowing to an almost halt, any help?
This is a discussion on Droid 1 slowing to an almost halt, any help? within the Cyanogenmod forums, part of the Custom Roms category; I have a milestone so obvioulsy my phone is alot less flexible in terms of hackablness (that's a word, right?)

I have a milestone so obvioulsy my phone is alot less flexible in terms of hackablness (that's a word, right?)
But with good minfree values and giving home a priority of 0 instead of 1 will make you grin
I wrote a pretty elaborate tutorial here [Script v2] SuperCharge & Bulletproof Your Milestone & Droid! Tips, Tricks & Tweaks!
I wouldn't know if the scripts would work "as is" on your ROMs though.
Basically /system/etc/init.d/99complete gets installed and on each boot it loads the lowmemorykiller settings into /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree
Many people are pleased and even amazed so maybe it's worth checking out
Edit: Oh I forgot I'm in the CM forum. Yeah the scripts may work as is since I'm running CM as well but on milestone.

Zeppelin,
Thanks for the link, and all of the work. While your script itself may not work (but I bet it would) there is enough information in your thread that folks should be able to figure things out. I do not have the dates exactly compared between your testing and Nadlabak's (sp) fix for purging assets, I would assume that your most recent testing is after his fix. If so, then folks need to probably make sure that they are running a newer nightly (certainly after our RC2) or their mileage may certainly vary.
Very good stuff in your thread.......

Thanks for the info zeppelin. I read through that thread but didn't notice if anyone had made the changes on the OG Droid.
I tried the memory settings in AMM on mine as well as setting ADW to 0 in AMM but about 2 minutes after I hit apply, ADW gets killed and I have to reboot to get it back.
Now, I did test only changing the memory settings to confirm and it still killed ADW so it doesn't seem to be the changing of priority that is the issue...
Running winner00's CM7 #27
Any ideas?
Please forgive me if this is a simple and/or stupid problem. I'm still learning.
Cheers!
Shawn

Thanks for the kinds words
Yeah we had a little discussion in his CM7 thread he gave me a couple of pointers/things to look at. He didn't mention any issue with the purging of assets fix though.
It actually started out as a simple guide for tweaking with AMM but then it just got bigger... lol
So now I figure people can test settings with AMM and when they find settings they like, they can make changes that stay on the reboot (via script or custom settings) and uninstall AMM.

Yeah in the OP I mention how changing priority level in AMM doesn't "stick" so that's how I came to think of setting it to a priority of 0 in local.prop
I thought the part about how to make your launcher "bulletproof" was obvious :P

Lol, well yeah, I got that, just had a different expectation for how it would work I guess. I was thinking that since I never had an issue with ADW being killed, just redraws every so often, that the redraws would end. Didn't expect to lose ADW altogether.
So, if I do the bulletproof fix then I shouldn't have a problem, correct?
Please don't take my previous post wrong, like I said I am pretty new to this so I am still at the wrong end of the learning curve. I have nothing but gratitude and admiration for anyone that knows their stuff and helps out the rest of us.
With that said I do have one other question... Can I add email to local.prop also so that it doesn't get killed? I have noticed that push notifications stop after a while and only start again after going into email and refreshing. Does that make sense?

I was wondering this too. Can you do this for any app? Sometimes while listening to music, it gets killed. Can I raise its priority permanently to reduce the chance of this?

Feeyo at cronos project had posted a way to do it
Look in the cronos ginger 1.1 milestone thread. I asked him a similar question a few days ago

Excellent! Thanks for that info zeppelinrox! I will give this a try today (hopefully). BTW, I agree, Zeppelin does rock. Greatest band to ever grace the stage.
I do have one other question... I was looking this morning and I can't find a local.prop file on my phone anywhere. Would we (I) just use the overclock file like Feeyo referenced in the cronos thread? If so, since I am running deprimed kernel (which creates and mods that file), do I just edit at the end of the file or is there a certain place within the file that it needs to be?
Damn, I ask too many questions...
EDIT: Following on those same lines... if there is no local.prop, then to "bulletproof" ADW, do I also add that to the overclock file with a value of 0 or -17?
Thx!
