Is CM7 for Gingerbread or Froyo?

The topic of the thread says it all. I'm running Gingerbread and I really wanna give CM7 a try, but not if I have to SBF back to Froyo to do it.

That's the only way you can try it - requires Froyo base before installing. Sorry...

It's definitely worth SBFing back for. I don't believe any rom gingerbread or froyo will come close once stable builds are released.

Just do it. You won't regret it. Just a simple sbf and you are on your way to the best rom available IMO.

As tempting as it sounds, I'd rather wait until one is available for gingberbread.

It won't be...the exploit that allows CM on D2 requires Froyo kernel. So you either use it from Froyo base, or you stick w/the GB ROMs. That's the way it is/will be.

CM is a GB ROM, it just requires a Froyo kernel to boot.

Redflea is absolutely right and couldn't have said it any better. Even though it's running off the froyo kernel it's speedier than any other moto gb based rom. ALL Cyanogenmod 7 roms are pure gingerbread and pure asop google so that basically means no blur in the original rom unless you add a few things back from blur. Without a single hint of Blur my phone is the most beastiest it has ever been.

I enjoyed Squidlyrom, Apex and Liberty and to be honest I always yearned for some Cm goodness even though Liberty had a lot of cm apps in the rom before the liberty gb nightlies it just wasn't the same. Now that all the great devs did the impossible and got CM for our locked phones I love my phone instead of just being content with it. Even without custom kernals CM4D2 is beyond my expectations and continues to get better nigthly.

I had stock Froyo, Liberty Froyo, the leaked GB and Liberty GB and I while they all worked ok (well stock froyo froze and rebooted itself occasionally), I was still looking forward to my upgrade date in August.

I've had CM7 for less than a week and not only am I no longer looking forward to upgrading, I'm thinking "No way I'm giving up this phone!". And no way I'm EVER going back to a bloated, blurred stock experience.

    CM7 isn't just a little better, it's a whole LOT better.
