What are kernal modules??? and what does it do?

It's the same thing as a linux module. Loadable kernel module - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
tl;dr it's an easy way to add things to the kernel on the fly with out a lot of work. The average user won't have a use for it.

yeah, you can read up, but bottom line you really don't have to worry about it. it's very much "under the hood" stuff.
