Auto rotate doesn't work on home screen on saphire 2.0.2

I am having a strange problem with Saphire 2.0.2. I am using the standard launcher and on the home screen it won't rotate. The rotate only works with the keyboard open. It rotates in all other apps, but not on the home screen. I installed launcher pro and adw and both rotated fine. I want to use the default launcher because of performance. I installed a fresh copy today after wiping system, boot, data, and cache. Any advice?

I am using original droid with 800 mhz kernel from ccroms page.

Is auto rotate selected in display settings. Using another launcher shouldn't lessen performance.

I have auto rotate checked, and I have noticed that screen redraws are much slower with different launchers, plus aps seem to load a bit slower. I use a lot of widgets and have a bunch of stuff on each home screen. I got no ideas, I can rotate if the keyboard is open, but not on the home screen without it open. Makes the music and pandora widget a bit harder to use, but I can live with it.
