It has been there. You can find numerous articles (ex. http://www.droid-life.com/2010/05/20...ver-bluetooth/ ) citing BT voice dialing as the "long awaited feature" included in Froyo, because everyone complained about it not being in 2.1 and previous versions.
The first Froyo ROM I installed was SS 4.4, and BT voice dialing was there and working for me on day one, and ever since. I don't know why it wasn't for you. I use a Jawbone 2 and a Motorola S9. It has always worked on both.

Hmm..Idk...the previous versions never worked for any of my cardo scala rider motorcycle helmet headsets. They do now though. They dont work with UD8. I had it previously, and my girl did after I flashed to 4.8, and it doesnt work on hers either.
This might sound crazy but give this a shot on a phone where it still isn't working. I rooted a friend's Droid a while back and she really wanted to have BT dialing, but said it wasn't working! I was over there recently and paired my headset to her phone and it worked! We were baffled, but then, she tried hers again and it suddenly worked! So maybe, try pairing a different BT headset to that phone. Sounds like voodoo, but you never know...
Tried mine out today and it works, really cool. I tried to call my girlfriend and it just said good bye to me. LMAO
I have tried 3 different Cardo Scala rider Q2 systems and NONE of them work with UD8. They didnt work for me on 4.7 either, nor when I was on ud8.
They didnt work on the stock froyo 2.2 either.
Not sure you know much about cardo scala rider headsets...but its not a typical bt ear piece.
Still though, ALL bluetooth devices should conform to the same standards... in this case, the handsfree profile. That is what is supposed to ensure that any BT device can work with any supporting device. In the case of BT voice dialing, all headsets should have a "multifunction" button that should be able to send the same voice dial command to the phone. The button may need to be tapped or held down depending on the device, but it SHOULD be a universal function of any headset, and Froyo SHOULD be able to recognize any of them, if the devices conform to the proper standard.

I agree...it should. Problem is...it doesnt.
You are more than welcome to come to my house, put the headset in discoverable mode, pair with the phone, and press a single button to initiate a voice call. Its not complicated...it just doesnt work. I just get an audible beep on my heaset earphones, and there is no spoken prompt...no prompt at all. Speaking into the mic does nothing. The phone itself does not respond to the command button from my headset.
Motorbike Intercom taking you further
Ive done it all...it doesnt work with the previous versions. I couldnt tell you why...and I dont really care why...I know it works with 4.8...and thats the only time I have ever been able to use my headset.
I like to keep my threads semi useful, lol. I just didn't realize that there was another thread with that exact idea. I'm pretty good about not reposting things usually.
Anyway, the disabling of music controls toggling is definitely something I'd like to request. I do love the feature though the music controls are great when I need to use them.
Oh I never doubted that was your experience..heh, I was just pointing out originally that the feature has in fact been in Froyo. Maybe they just have some bugs to work out still.
Well of course, you should see a popup box saying voice dialing is initiating, then hear the "speak now" prompt. The only other possibility I could think of is that maybe somehow the "voice dialer" apk wasn't able to be the default application in the past. I remember the first time I pressed the voice dial button on my headset after installing Froyo, I was prompted to run either "Voice dialer" or "Voice dialer HF". HF is what I had used previously as a substitute. Was able to uninstall it forever once I had voice dialing working.
Cool set by the way... didn't know those things also supported FRS radio type communication between riders. Sweet.
