Hey Rich - can you verify that /system/lib/modules/tun.ko exists? Try the manual way:

insmod system/lib/modules/tun.ko - and the others you did download? Can't see how they would be missing ...

Just took a look with Root Explorer and system/lib/module/tun.ko is not there. Also used Root Explorer to take a look inside the zip I downloaded using Rom Manager and the system/.../tun.ko file is not there. Should it be?

And to be sure I tried insmod and it returned "failed to open file"

Must be something wrong with the download then - I just pulled directly from my ftp site and it is definitely correct and there ... I would suggest downloading again. However - which zip DID you download, just the TUN or the 'all of the above'

Just the tun. I'll try the download again. I may have been a bit too quick on the trigger going thru the choice in ROM manager. I get the impression that you are about to make some updates to fix some Market issues. Should I wait for that?

I haven't seen this work in any Froyo ROM yet ...

Then tell me how to make it go away. The icon hangs out in the status bar, annoyingly. The option isn't checked in Settings, but it's illuminated and the text says the hotspot is active. If I tap it, it goes dark, says it's inactive, then it reilluminates and the text says error. Interestingly, it won't let me take a DroCap when it says Error. Triggering the camera causes the error message to go away and be replaced by the hotspot active message.

I'm not seeing this issue unless I'm misunderstanding. The only time I do see the icon stay and not clear itself is if I select the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot option, which isn't suppose to work anyway, right? USB tethering and the Wireless Tether app do not exhibit the problem.

The tun module allows me to VPN into the office through my Cisco box. The other modules allow you to access data on other OS's. For example, cifs will allow you to access a Windows share on a PC from your phone.

I'm sure I saw somewhere that somebody was missing their dictionary for the keyboard, and somebody else had said something about swype not working...

were there quick fixes for these... the only problems i've had so far... I'll probably just reinstall swype...

Unfortunately I don't have any time to read the whole thread... no free time at work today...
