    go into rootexplorer at the top hit the white button Mount R/W
    scroll down to system click on it, click on app scroll down to the maps.apk
    long press on it till the options page comes up click delete back up a couple pages click Mount R/O back out
    power down phone restart phone
    then go to settings>applications/Managed Applications/ menukey > filter > all scroll down to the com.android.google.apps.maps click it then uninstall
    then go back to market find and download google maps

    thanks Gatewayad I got it. Are you familiar with customizing this sg6 rom like boot animation and notification text color or themes? if so can I get with you on that? Don't want to take this thread off topic.

    Never messed with the notification text color, themes you would add thru MetaMorph havent done it in a while but remember it being pretty easy. I think the directions are in the below link also.
    Custom Boot animation is easy (if you are adding one someone else already made) I have never tried to make my own

    Download the Boot Animation that you want to replace the Droid animation.

    Make sure it is named "bootanimation.zip" without the quotes and mount your phone and put the zip on your SD card.

    Open up Root Explorer. Navigate to your SD card where the file is, and long press > move.

    Navigate back to data/local folder (not on your SD card, on your actual phone in Root Explorer). You should have a "..." and a "tmp" folder. Paste/move the file to this location. Reboot.

    Worked like a charm. I was wondering why the damn installation kept failing. Thanks a lot for this.

    Thanks for this. Previously I had success just deleting the files then installing from Market, however with the latest update I couldn't get it to go even with everything removed. Your little installer package did the job perfectly.
