The backup tool is in Chevy tools in the settings menu, then scripts, and its the top one, not totally sure about its ability to backup sd-ext apps but it think if you wiped everything but ext with the partition menu in cwr then you should be able to restore everything back to normal as it restores apps with data.

As far as I know the only recovery that does have the ability top wipe sdext is rzrecovery. Clockwork attempts to do it but I have never seen it locate the file.

Clockwork does it for me. Never had an issue. If you encounter an error mounting ext it might be that you are going to reformat the ext partition.

I'm totally looking forward to the 1% battery increments. How hard would it be to implement 1% increments on Chevy's last Froyo ROM (if it's even possible)?

Just installed 5.6 out works great. There are some issues with the apps, but uninstalling them and reinstalling them fixes the problems.
