Do we still need setcpu running on ss5. 5?

I have always used it for info and profiles. Mainly because I fear overheating. I have not for a while and tried to watch CPU temp. With os monitor. So far so good.
I don't know if it might conflict with ROM settings.

But what if you flash a different kernel that isn't stock? I would think you need to right? Since now the rom itself is altered.

No, the ROM settings will still set min Max and governor. If you adjust advanced settings for on demand or interactive you have to use set CPU. There are other apps for overclocking too. But the ROM will do basic settings.

Ok I got it. I still use chevyno1's kernels, I have to use 1.1 ulv. and just wondered.

So if I use a chevy kernal and use performance setting....do I need setcpu?
Was reading somewhere here a guy was overheating without setcpu then used it and heat went down
I am asking this cause today I was drving in car with droid charging and had a screen on program running....I had many reboots....I'm guessing you can't keep screen on that long?
Or was it the not having setcpu?
Was running chevy ulv 1.1 at 1000 peak

If you're running 1.1ghz with the Performance governor, there's your problem. Performance keeps the clock speed maxed while the screen is on, even if it's not needed. This will cause a QUICK heat-up, which leads to the reboots. I usually use Interactive, and Chevy himself has said on several posts that he uses OnDemand. Change your governor before you melt your phone!
Um, can't believe no one addressed the op's question as far as 5.5 is concerned, unless he meant 5.4, lol. I've never used set cpu, so since 5.5 isn't released yet, I'm taking a gamble that I won't need it. I just use overclock widget and chevyno1 tools for my overclock settings and profiles.
