    Recent problems with SS5.4

I was starting to clog up the rom release thread and at this point my phone is becoming unusable so I wanted to create a new thread.

My number one issue is the virtual keyboard. It keeps disappearing when i'm in the middle of typing, or it won't appear at all. I've noticed this has happened across all apps that i've used since the first time it started. (Maps, Youtube, tweetdeck, messaging, droidforums, etc.) Sometimes i can tap on the screen and it will pop back up but more recently it only shows up about 30% of the time. I wiped data from the android keyboard which didn't help, i also tried other keyboards and they also didn't help.

My next issue is internal memory. I've gone from about 90 to 28 in the last week or so. I've wiped cache with cache cleaner, i've gone through my apps and deleted any data or cache that i could. I just cant seem to figure out where it all has gone. Also my phone has become very sluggish (not sure if this is related to the low internal memory but i have read before that the low memory will effect performance, again...i'm no dev, so i don't know if this is true, just something i read). I've wiped cache and dalvik cache many many times but it's not helping. Note: i've stopped using compcache.

My last issue is battery life. I don't expect to get 12 hours because i'm always fiddling with my phone, but i do need to get over 4. Same use as always but lately i've gotten considerably less battery life. I'm aware that it could be a kernel issue, i'm running 1.2 ghz medium voltage chevy kernel, max clocked at 1 ghz. I've had the rom installed since about a week after it was released and this battery issue started in the last week or so, so it's a new problem, not like it's been this way since i initially flashed the rom. I'm running medium voltage because it helps me to answer calls. When i was running the low voltage kernel, my phone would ring but i would be unable to answer it because the screen would stay black. I've wiped and wiped and wiped battery stats but that doesn't help. Maybe it's just time for a new battery.

Sorry for such a long post but my phone is really starting to frustrate me and i'm about to throw it into the wall . And i've really been clogging the rom release thread the last couple days so i wanted to stop doing that. This is by far my favorite rom so i'd like to get these issues figured out.

I'll give it a couple more days before i just totally wipe the thing and reflash 5.4 all together. I'll be too busy to do so in the next couple days so i'm hoping in the mean time somebody might have a suggestion.

Thank you all for the help, and again sorry about such a long post.

What all have you tried so far to resolve your issues? There should be a way to fix all this for you. Let me know what you have tried so far and I will try to help you from there, to the best of my abilities.

EDIT: Well I just read all your posts and seriously would suggest doing a wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik (do the cache and dalvik 3 or more times). Then reflash. I know it's a PITA but it will most likely resolve all your issues. If you use SetCPU, try making a "Screen Off" profile with a Max of 550 and a Min of either 250 or 125. Also, pick the kernels you want and try them out each for about a week. Also (even though I'm sure you do this anyway), make sure you're at 100% battery and wipe the battery stats when flashing.

lol, funny, i just replied to you in another thread.

as far as the keyboard, i've wiped data from the stock android keyboard, and i've installed a keyboard from the market. Both still disappear.

as far as the internal memory, i moved all my apps to the sd card except for a few with widgets and after i did that i had around 100 mb available. since then i've downloaded roughly 10 more apps and moved about 8 of them to the sd card as well. after that i was around 90 mb available. then the last week it's just been dropping every day. i've gone through settings>applications>manage apps>downloaded and cleared and cache and data that i can but it still doesn't help. i've also wiped cache and dalvik cache. (i'm about to sit here with a calculator and add up each app and see what it comes to, but to drop 60 mb's in week without downloading anything new is crazy to me)

and as far as the battery, i've lowered my clock speed from 1.2 ghz to 1 ghz and i've wiped battery stats.

thanks for the help, appreciate it

Edit: so i added it up, i have ~143 mb of apps on my internal storage. so if i'm not mistaken i should have at least the 90 or so that i was at before it started dropping on me. although even though i've been doing this for over a year....i still consider myself a complete noob . I understand that i could delete some apps if i have to, but i just don't understand how it could drop 60 mb's without me making any changes

Lol yeah I just replied to that one haha. Ok so, honestly I would suggest rebooting into recovery and following these steps:

    Wipe data/factory reset (5 times)
    Wipe Cache Partition (5 times)
    Wipe Dalvik Cache (5 times)
    Reboot into recovery again.
    Flash ROM
    Reboot into recovery again.
    Flash Kernel.

Not sure what all kernels you have tried already but I suggest trying the 1000mhz Medium Voltage Kernel, not for any specific reason. It's just that I've heard a lot of good results from this Kernel. If you notice any high temps with that Kernel, try dropping down to the Low Voltage of the same spped Kernel. These may have even been what you already tried but please just try these steps and let me know how everything goes. Try all this without running the SuperCharger Script and let me know the results.

Also just out of curiousity, what recovery are you using?

I would suggest start with clocking your phone at 800 or 900 and see where your battery life sits. That will give you a baseline if the overclocking is sucking your battery or if it's an application.

I started with 1.1 but found the performance gain was not worth the battery drain and ended up with 800 (which is faster then factory). Just my $0.02 worth.

Here's my two cents: a lot of problems can creep up with forcing apps (specifically system apps) to the SD card. You'll see plenty of notices to NOT move widgets and such to SD.

Having said that, try to move the keyboard back to phone or do a fresh clean reload as the specialist suggested and don't move any apps. Test things out, then start moving all the same apps across and see if you have discovered whats causing it.

The fact that keyboard issues are not common amongst 5.4 users makes me think that this could be a culprit.

As far as battery life and kerneling, I agree; somethings off.

Having never had to use a MV kernel before and watching everyone suggest higher and higher voltages makes me confident there's an issue. The problem is finding out what it is given my complete lack of expertise in the OS.
