Speaking of brightness settings anyone have any tips on the custom brightness settings?

The battery usage program should not be read once and believed as-is for this kind of guidance.

If you want a very clear reading, turn on the program while the phone is charging, then unplug the charger. That restarts the data collection so that you don't get lots of old averaged data mixed in.

Then tap Settings => Refresh a few times to get a fresh start. Then watch your battery usage for a while, about 15 to 20 minutes. Put the phone into sleep for a while, perhaps another 5 minutes or so. Then start getting interested in your Android OS readings...

By this time if you're under 10%, you're probably at least close to the right kernel for your hardware and application load. If you're under 5%, you probably have the right kernel.

When I first started writing this, freshly started, Android OS in Battery Usage for my phone was at about 25%. After following the procedure above, resetting by unplugging the charger, and sleeping it and watching it for a while, it's at and below 2% -- actually falling off the graph.

Really, the better way to test for the right kernel is system heat and battery usage over a long period. If you are running cool, and if you get 15 or so hours and still have 60% of your battery available, you've got the right kernel. But that takes time, and you may not have that kind of time, so the Battery Usage graph may be the 2nd best choice.

Remember, no phone is the same as anyone else's from a combined hardware tolerance and application load standpoint. The best kernel for your phone is not necessarily the best one for everyone else, or vice versa.

Great explanation. That helps a lot.

+1 great way of explaining it...as of yet I still have yet to fully calibrate my battery stats...just can't set it down long enough to wait for a totally full charge...will do tonight...hopefully lol

I have never been able to run the ulv kernels on my D1 until this batch. Soo awesome. Currently using the ulv .8, but may step up to the .9 or 1.0. Right now, even with the .8 performance is outstanding. Temps are phenomenal.

I just watched an entire episode of Dexter on Netflix over 3G, and my CPU temp never got over 40deg C!! And it only used 20% of my battery!

Can't thank you enough Chevy. Really great job man. SS 5.4 together with your kernels is keeping me from upgrading my D1.

    Donation on it's way.

I have tasker so i set up some brightness widgets. Typically my brightness is incredibly low-value of 31(max is 255).I got widgets to switch between 31-100-255 and all i need to do is click them . Tasker is the best App on the market. Get it fi you don't already have it.

I have 30% of battery remaining after 18 hours of up time. 11 hours were moderate use, and 7 hours standby while I slept. I don't even know my phone's stock battery life, but that seems pretty good to me.

Oooo, now you have my interest. In the past (8-12 months ago various times) I have tried the 800 ULV and would always get random reboots or even a bootloop. We'll see though, I just switched from my norm of 800 LV to 1000 LV and it seems to be working well.

No, 1.1lv running cm7. I was just saying, I don't know my phone's normal battery life to compare that to, since my phone's relatively new and I used it CONSTANTLY when I first got it and the battery would drain in 7ish hours. I had milestone overclock running on the stock kernel shortly after getting the phone, and never guaged a stock kernel battery life.
