How do I save emailed ringtones??

Hey all, new to the forum and smartfones. I know the Commando isnt an I-Phone, but it serves my purposes well. Question is this: with all my older phones, id simply create a ringtone, then email it to my phone and the phone would give me the option to save as a sound. how do i do it with the Commando? I finally figured out how to save the attached ringtone, but where do I retrieve it from on the fone and how?

Congrats on your Commando.
i-phones are very over rated, and are like a child's toy in comparison
when it comes to durability.
I think buying a Commando over an i-phone speaks
volumes about the person.
(for the better)

This was also my first smart phone,
and I too was a little confused when trying to save ringtones at first.
Don't worry...you'll get used to it.
Now to answer your question:

If I remember correctly,
the sound will be saved in a folder on your SD card labeled "downloads".
I haven't used the default messaging system in quite some time,
and that's why I'm a little fuzzy on this.
I'm currently using Handcent for messaging.
If you're using that app, the sound is saved in a folder WITHIN
the Handcent folder, and it too is labeled downloads.

Let me give you a bit of advise though:
I find doing it another way, to be MUCH easier,
and you can move your sound files in bulk.

1. Connect you Commando to your computer.
(make sure you connect it as a "mass storage" devise)
2. Open up your SD card.
3. Create folders on your SD card named:
Ringtones
Notifications
Alarms
4. Transfer all of your sounds into those folders for however you intend to use them.

Now.....
When go to change a Ringtone, Notification Sound, or Alarm,
your sounds will appear automatically just like the default Commando
sounds.

* If you don't know which of your sounds that you want to use for each type of alert,
I would suggest copying all of your sound files into each of those folders.
That way they'll all be there for each alert.

** Also: Download a copy of Astro File Manager from the Android Market.
This will allow you to move those files (and others) very easily within the phone itself,
so you don't have to connect it to your computer to do so.

It's a bit of a change, but it will be like second nature once you get used to it.

The one thing that really irritated me at first is that this "smart" phone,
couldn't do things out of the box that my enV touch could.
You need to install apps for all those things.
Now...it makes sense to me:
No 2 people are the same, and you might not like what I like.
So Android gives you the option of what YOU want to install and use.
( I still feel it should do more out of the box though )
As for Verizon pre-installing all that garbage bloatware
that most people will never use...that's a whole other subject alltogether.

Daffy, BTG has good advice but another option is when I email ringtones to my commando they go to my "ringdroid"'s app file. I got it free off the market and it is very handy and easy to edit ringtones for use as a ring or alert. Very slick app FWIW. Also an excellent source for tons of ring tones is crackberry. Become a member(crackberry.com) and check out the ringtone thread. Literally tons of tones. They can be emailed to your phone and it's very safe unlike alot of other sites that want your phone number. I get all my tones there. Made for a BB yet they work great on my commando . A+++

Thank ya muchly yall. Ill eventually get around to removing the crap I dont need, so Ill wait before researching that. I also need to organize my apps by putting them in folders on the home screen, or in the app screen. Am i correct to assume that i need an app for that? I seem to recall seeing a folder app that allows you to do that?
You say that when I saved the ringtone attachment that it would be under "downloads". Where? I cannot find that joker anywhere on the fone. Also, Ive tried hoooking it up via USB. Nothing happens. My computer recognizes that its hooked up, but I cant get it to pop up under my computer to access it. Ive gone and toggled the USB options on the fone and nothing. When I toggle to charge only, it worked once, now it wont even charge when hooked up to my PC.
