I find this surprising, really, a lot of people want a tough smartphone and not wanting to baby it. I have seen quit a few get damaged by small things and verizon has this and does not carry even a handful of accessories for it. The case they offered sucks, got one off of ebay and they did not have the cradle in stock and to top it off they did not have a pouch for it.

It is called dashboard assist pro from amazon. It was a free application one day and I downloaded it for the heck of it and it is actually a nice application. There are accessories here at DF that are decent for the cammando, I bought the Nite Ize pouch but I got the case on ebay.

Got my cradle today. I'd been checking VW's site daily and finally got lucky. Probably should have bought two so I could keep one in the car. Thankfully, the cable plugs into the cradle instead of being permanently attached so I can use the car cord with it too.

I ordered a cradle and after they accept my order and about 5 hours later they email me saying it's back ordered. The sold out banner was no where to be seen.

I think the cradle automatically puts it in "desktop" mode, at least that's what I've noticed. I leave mine on 24/7 so it's not an issue. So to answer your question, yes, I believe it is this way.

    Casio Commando Cradle "Review"

I received the cradles. While this doesn't help with it being out of stock, thought I'd write up a little "mini-review" on the cradle itself as I couldn't find any details prior to purchasing.

I bought three of these (home, work, car) with one specifically for mounting in my truck. I was a little concerned that it would just rest on the cradle and not be able to handle bumps and vehicle motion. On the top and bottom of the phone, there's two square indentations that gently lock the phone to the cradle. These are spring loaded and are strong enough to actually hold it upside down, but it snaps out very easily when you want it.

The base of the cradle is about 2" deep, which is a bit wide IMO for a car. Fortunately, my Dodge Ram has a perfect mounting spot right under the radio. I wanted to permanently mount it, so thought I would open the cradle up to see where it was safe to drill through it. Four screws out, but the two halves are snapped together. "No problem" I thought. I slipped in a knife, began to pry it a part from the bottom, and ... oops. Cracked the circuit board. Luckily it's just a power strip leading to the negative terminal. I soldered a jump wire and it was good to go. (For anyone wanting to do similar, it easily pries apart from the side and there's no wires/electronics - only a spring which stays in place.)

When charging in the cradle, the phone automatically engages the Desk Cradle app. Sitting bedside, it takes too long to dim and is still fairly bright. I want it dark when I'm sleeping and I don't plan on this replacing my bedside clock. My phone is rooted and freezing that app took care of it for me. I played around with a couple of market apps, but they all want to be a bedside clock and not turn off the display completely. (If anyone finds a good app, let me know.) And yes, if you turn the phone off, it automatically starts when set on the charger - regarless of the desktop cradle app disabled.

All in all, I'm very happy with the cradle and my only complaint was the price (and lack of availability). Verizon has an ongoing sale of 25% off when buying three accessories, so I was able to save a little there.

    Hope this info helps!

Considering that the stock desk clock is so annoying, could we pull the desk clock from another froyo build and use it? It is just an apk file so in theory it should work. I'll give it a shot tonight and let you all know later.
