Specific cable for data transfer?

I am new to smartphones so please excuse my colossal lack of proper terminology.

I have a feeling this question will be easily answered by the more experienced users. I have had experience with a regular USB cable not being able to handle data transfer. Those cables usually have a "box" on them that makes them special (and very costly).

The cable that came with the Commando looks like any other cable with the exception of being a heavier gauge. Can I use any USB cable with the appropriate connector to transfer from my PC, or does it have to be labeled for data transfer?

Any data cable will work. Grab the usb drivers in the Possible Root Method thread.

Thanks, gpsjunkie. The cable that came with it is about 3 ft long, and is also the charging cable. I'd like a little extra cable, and maybe a couple of spares.

There are so many types of USB cables out there that it is hard to find a generic (i.e. cheap) cable for any sort of phone. I have found this as a source of cheap cables (<$10 for 2 delivered).
