do i have to open it the text editor, or just rename the file itself?
Ok, I was unclear; sorry.
- Nandroid backup!
- In root explorer, go to /etc/init.d directory.
- Mount that directory as r/w.
- Open the 01cpuod file in the text editor. (Or, if you've used Pete's "cpuia" script to run the interactive governor, open the "01cpuia" script.)
- Scroll to the bottom of the file.
- Add the line "/system/bin/compcache start" (no quotes!)
- Save the file and exit the editor
- Remove the 01cpuod.bak (or 01cpuia.bak) file, also in root explorer
- Exit root explorer
- reboot the phone
- Profit! (hopefully)
I will say this; those steps are what worked for me and what makes sense given my background in unix hacking. Comes with the usual caveats... backup first, I made my best attempt at correctness here, but I could be wrong, etc.
These instructions were great. Thank you for the step by step!!

When you said to add a line do you add with a tap? or do you add after the line "fi" like all the way in the bottom. I was a bit confused. Also how do you know if it works. Do you install Pete's Compcache first? Thanks!

no 01cpu0d file in .4, where to put startup line
Hey, I'm using BB 0.4 (I know...but I don't feel like going through the upgrade process right now) and I've got compcache working, but I want to put the line in the startup script so I don't have to do it manually.
In (my) 0.4 there is no 01cpu0d file in the /etc/init.d directory.
Where would I add the "/system/bin/compcache start" line to have compcache startup automatically with BB 0.4?
Thanks for the help.
